FAQs

Cake aftercare? Get your cake home safe.

To get your cake to your destination safe and sound, driving to pick up is recommended. However, I have taken many a cake on public transportation and they can be bussed if you have the confidence! If driving, I suggest driving with your cake on the passenger side floor, in the lap of a passenger, or in the trunk- to keep the cake as flat and stable as possible. Refrigerate until approx one hour before serving (1.5 in the winter, 30 min in the summer). Letting the cake come to room temp is an important aspect as it allows the flavors to come together!

In terms of cutting, I recommend the following: slice clean down the middle, then slice perpendicular to the cut (i.e rectangles rather than triangles!). This method makes for a much cleaner and more even cake slice!

Can I eat the flowers??

In general, NO! I use mainly organic, 100% non-toxic, washed florals for all my decorations. Most of them come from UBC Farm, both bought and personally grown. If I cannot access the flowers from the farm I will locally forage, or purchase from other local flower vendors including Front Yard Flower Co and Studio Full Bloom (see more about them on my Local Suppliers page).

Certain flowers are perfectly edible and they can be mixed in with non-edible flowers. These include marigolds, nasturtiums, clovers, pansies, primroses, snapdragons, sunflowers, and apple blossoms. IF there are petals embedded in your frosting, they are edible! IF you are unsure if a flower is edible, DO NOT eat it!

How many days in advance do I order my cake?

Please place your cake order AS SOON AS YOU KNOW you want one!! Why wait?! I ask that customers place their orders two weeks in advance! Once in a while, I can fulfill an order one week in advance but it is not guaranteed.

Why are my box and cake Board repurposed cardboard and are they food safe?

I acquire all of my cardboard boxes and cake boards from liquor stores. I personally make the cake boards at home using wax paper and irregular scraps of cardboard. They are perfectly food safe as I ensure they are clean and uncontaminated when I collect them. This aspect of The Goods is vital to our waste reduction goals. If you are uncomfortable with the policy or have an allergy you are concerned about, I ask that you order from another lovely cake bakery in Vancouver!

What if I have an allergy?

If you have a severe allergy to NUTS, DAIRY, EGGS, or GLUTEN I recommend that you do not place an order with me. I use the same sets of pans and baking appliances to make all my cakes. If you have an intolerance, that is perfectly OK!! Just let me know in the comments so I can take extra precautions during the baking and storing process.

Can i order a Gluten free cake?

I do not make gluten free cakes. I would recommend Lemonade Bakery on Cambie Street or Edible Flours on West Broadway for your gluten free needs!

Can I get my cake delivered?

No.
